The team at Cornerstone is a collection of talented individuals, whose unique abilities complement those of the other team members. Our firm includes a balance of professional and technical personnel, as well administrative support staff; providing us with the capability to accomplish projects at any scale.
Beyond our in-house team, we work with a range of consultants who are familiar with our process and our expectations. We welcome the client's involvement in the selection of the most suitable group of consultants to address the particular needs of each project.
Richard W. Hammond is a Director of the practice and acts as Project Architect on the firm's seniors' communities and sustainable design projects. He is a graduate of the University of Waterloo School of Architecture (1984), Arizona State University's School of Sustainability (2011) and the University of Waterloo's School of Environment, Resources and Sustainability (2017), as well as a LEED® Accredited Professional since 2005. Richard's unique abilities include consensus-building, collaborative problem solving, and the development of systematic approaches to the delivery of the firm's professional services.
Alison J. L. Hannay is a Director of the practice and a graduate of the University of Waterloo School of Architecture (1991); including experience with leading architectural firms in London, England. She acts as Project Architect on the firm's projects for children, education, and community facilities. In addition to her design talents, Alison's unique abilities include her perception and understanding of complex issues, and the communication of these in comprehensible terms to the client and members of the project team.
Participation of the Principal Architects
In the early planning and conceptual phase of a project, Richard and Alison work together with the client's project team in the identification of primary success factors. This collaborative process provides the client with a diverse perspective on the issues and opportunities presented by a particular project.
Both Richard and Alison are actively involved in the local community -- serving on a number of public boards and contributing their professional skills to various municipal initiatives.
