Stoney Creek Elementary School

Located in the expanding Stoney Creek community in north London, Stoney Creek Public School is designed to accommodate approximately 600 students ranging from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8. The two storey design provides for classroom space, a double gymnasium, a state-of-the-art Library Resource Centre, a General Arts Room and a Developmental Centre to accommodate students with special needs.

The building is designed with an efficient ‘L’ shape plan oriented along Nicole Avenue to provide civic and street presence within the community while simultaneously framing a south facing playground with direct access to the adjacent community park. An extended canopy draws students, employees and visitors towards the main entrance which opens up into a light-filled atrium, the heart of the building, which provides direct access to the Library, Gymnasium and Office while branching off into two classrooms wings.

The school has been designed to achieve an increased level of energy efficiency, through an improved building envelope including increased insulation levels and enhanced window and curtain wall systems, as well as a highly efficient mechanical system. The project received four out of five Green Globes through the Green Globes™ system for rating sustainable design.
